On my 10th birthday, one of the gifts I received was a diary. And so, a life-long passion for journaling and writing stories began. I grew up in a Connecticut home mostly surrounded by woods that provided a place for adventure as a child, and long contemplative hikes as a teen. All of my life I’ve lived within miles or minutes of an ocean, a forest, or canyon trails, enabling me to seek solace and peace through walks, runs or cross-country skis. Appreciating fresh air and the wildlife the outdoors offers created a desire to eat closer to the earth and to take care of my body so I could continue to move freely and be healthy. Not born a natural athlete, I gained strength as well as agility through exercise and with that, my inner strength blossomed, along with the desire to help others cultivate confidence and self-esteem while improving their health and fitness.

My interest in art and design led me to a 2 year program in Interior Design, but I changed paths soon after graduating, and went back to school. Since earning a B.S. degree in Exercise Science in 1983 (along with certifications from A.C.S.M. and A.C.E.), I have been a group exercise instructor and personal trainer, director of fitness at several athletic clubs, and owner/manager of Body Architects, a personal fitness studio.

In 1998, on my 39th birthday, I had a mid-life reawakening, which prompted a move across the country two weeks later, from the North Shore of Massachusetts to the North Coast of San Diego. Giving up my home, garden, and almost all my possessions, I traded a comfortable lifestyle and a secure future for a simpler existence where (in time) I received more joy from the beauty of nature and being mindful, than from material things. It was then I began my study of yoga, which catapulted my journey towards my creative self and spirit – my true nature. The seeds had been planted in my soul, and were with me all along, waiting to be nurtured and birthed into my life.  Years of writing and photography classes and practice, along with my career and passion for mindfulness inspired me to write and publish Twelve Mindful Months.  In 2015, I completed a mindfulness facilitator training course, and became a Mindfulness Ambassador through Mindfulness Without Borders.

Currently, when I’m not writing or taking photos, I’m a personal trainer both in-home and at the renowned Golden Door destination spa, where I also lead hikes, teach fitness, yoga, mindfulness and journaling classes.

I enjoy helping people get stronger and healthier – both inside and out. I love seeing their energy and appreciation for life increase as they become more mindfully fit, balanced and whole.

I love seeing the new in the old, discovering new places, trying new things. I enjoy interacting with nature, pets, and people, and telling their story through words or photographic images.

So what’s your story? What brings you joy, what inspires you, what makes you feel more alive? Write about it. Experience it. And write me – I’d love to hear from you!

Wise Words

“The future is not someplace we are going to, but a place we are creating. The paths to it are not found, they are made.”
